Dakotawinds Brubu
(“Bubba")
AMHR#: (pending)
HEIGHT: (20” at birth), expected to finish at approx. 30" ("A" Division)
DOB: June 28, 2010
COLOUR: Sorrel
SIRE: DW Farm Sirocco's Interlude (AMHA# A143417/AMHR# 236234A)
DAM: Dakotawinds Aquilo Sevens (AMHR# 286543)
Bubba was our 16th foal, a colt, born here at Dakota Winds Farm a week early and our last foal of 2010. His registered name "Brubu" is of course a wind and it literally means “a name for a squall in the East Indies". Natalie wanted to use the name Bubba as his barn name in honour of our beloved barn cat who sadly passed away the same day as this foal was born. Bubba is a lovely long legged colt with a saucy but sweet personality ... thank you to "Grandma" Fly for taking care of both of Mom and son during the birth as we were away for a few hours and Qui was not due yet and thus had given absolutely no signs that she was ready to foal.

Dakotawinds Matacabras
(“Derby“)
AMHR#: (pending)/ ASPC#: (pending)
HEIGHT: (24” at birth), expected to finish at approx. 37” ("B" Division)
DOB: May 1, 2010
COLOUR: Black pinto
SIRE: Ten LS Eye of the Tiger (AMHR/ASPC)
DAM: Owsley Fork Heidi (HOF) (AMHR#268434B/ASPC# 154569A)
Derby was our 15th foal, a colt, born here at Dakota Winds Farm and our last AMHR/ASPC foal of 2010. His registered name "Matacabras" is of course a wind and it literally means “a cold North wind in the mountainous regions of Spain". We decided to use the name Derby as his barn name due to his birth being the same day as the famous Kentucky Derby race which was fitting since his Mom came from Kentucky (thanks Kelly & Mike for the name idea!). Derby is a lovely long legged colt with a confident but sweet personality ... we're thinking he'd make a nice match to Bowie as a team to drive!

Dakotawinds Matanuska
(“Bowie“)
AMHR#: (pending)/ ASPC#: (pending)
HEIGHT: (24” at birth), expected to finish at approx. 37” ("B" Division)
DOB: April 25, 2010
COLOUR: Black pinto with one blue eye
SIRE: Ten LS Eye of the Tiger (AMHR/ASPC)
DAM: Ten Ls Legacys Fiona (AMHR#271772B/ASPC# 152064A)
Bowie was our 14th foal, a colt, born here at Dakota Winds Farm and our first foal of 2010, our very first AMHR/ASPC foal at that! His registered name "Matanuska" is of course a wind and it literally means “a strong, gusty, northeast wind which occasionally occurs during the winter in the vicinity of Palmer, Alaska". We decided to use the name Bowie as his barn name when one of our visitors said with his one blue eye and one dark eye, he's just like the singer David Bowie. Bowie is a lovely long legged colt with a strong outgoing personality ... if he's anything like his full sister, he'll have movement to burn and will be destined to drive!

Brisa was our 13th foal, a filly, born here at Dakota Winds Farm and our last foal of 2009. Brisa is of course a wind and it literally means “a northeast wind which blows on the coast of South America or an east wind which blows on Puerto Rico during the trade wind season". It is also one of the Breyer Wind Dancer horses that my girls collect. Sirocco and May have proved this combination once again makes for a tiny correct little horse!

| Sam was our 12th foal, a colt, born here at Dakota Winds Farm and our first foal of 2009! He arrived extremely quickly before my husband could even get out to the barn after I called to let him know Fancy was in labour. Sumatra is obviously a wind and it literally means “a squall with violent thunder, lightening and rain, with blows at night in the Malacca Straits, especially during the southwest monsoon; it is intensified by strong mountain breezes". Fancy and Patch have proved this combination once again makes for a sweet and friendly natured foal with lots of leg and a pretty head ... as one of my dear clients coined him: "He is a Smasher!" eldest daughter, Heather adores May as they
have shown so much together so we gave her
the honour to name May's foal this year. Alize
means “a northeasterly wind across central
Africa and the Caribbean”. Alize is
tiny and leggy with delicate features: this
filly is going to make someone a lovely show
horse and future broodmare! |

Toro was
our tenth foal, a colt, born here at Dakota
Winds Farm on Good Friday. He arrived extremely
quickly leaving us only enough time to get
just one picture of him being born. Our youngest
daughter, Natalie, adores Fancy so we gave
her the honour to name Fancy's foal this year
which, due to his speedy delivery, suits him
well. Tornado is obviously a wind and it literally
means “a violently rotating column of
air which is in contact with both a cumulonimbus
cloud and the surface of the earth, usually
visible as a funnel cloud”; his unique
star looks a bit like a twister. Sirocco has
proved himself once again: this colt is going
to make someone a lovely little Youth horse
or great first Mini!

MD Barat
(“Barat“)
SOLD to a wonderful home in 2006
AMHR#: 270891
HEIGHT: (19.5” at birth), expected to finish
at approx 30” ("A" Division)
DOB: May 14, 2006
COLOUR: Sorrel with large star
SIRE: Rising Hill
Lucky Lewie (AMHR# 63675A)
DAM: Wagner Blue J Mountain
Views Tansey (AMHA# A83173 /AMHR# 228252A)
Barat was our seventh foal, a colt,
born here at Dakota Winds Farm and was a wonderful
surprise for me as he was born on Mother’s
Day (hence the “MD” in his name). Barat
means “A heavy northwest squall in Manado
Bay on the north coast of the island of Celebes,
prevalent from December to February”. Barat
was a saucy boy as soon as he could stand, giving
his Mom much grief with his rough play with her.
Barat settled down a few months later to become
a sweet and lovable wee man. He was shown only twice
(winning two 1sts) at the local fairs in 2006 by
my youngest daughter, Natalie and was a sweetheart
for her to handle.

Zonda

SOLD to Angela, Dennis &
Tanner Merner in 2006
AMHR#: 271261
HEIGHT: (23” at birth), expected to finish
at approx. 36” ("B" Division)

COLOUR: Silver Dapple Pinto
SIRE: Rising

Zonda was our sixth foal, a filly,
born here at Dakota Winds Farm. Zonda means “A
Chinook on the Eastern slope of the Andes Region
in Argentina”. When she was born, she was
all legs and we think she’ll made a lovely
future driving horse (she had a lovely floaty trot
even as a youngster). She has her Mom’s kind
and sweet nature. Before being sold she placed 1st
in her Weanling Foals Class at her first show. She
has continued her success in the show ring with
her new owners by ranking 4th for Mare Foal of the
Current Year (30" & under) class in the
2006 AMHR Top Ten National All-Stars.

Land’s Fly the Flag (AMHR# 227949B)
Zephie was our fifth foal, a filly,
born here at Dakota Winds Farm and she took our
breath away the minute she was born. Zephyros means
"The ancient Greek name for the west wind,
which is light and beneficial. In Greek Mythology,
it is the God of the Winds of Spring". She
is an almost exact replica of her mom, Promised
Land’s Fly the Flag but with two gorgeous
blue eyes; definitely a keeper! She has amazing
movement and will be a match for her mom as our
future driving team. Following her Mom's successful
show record, Zephie has had tremendous success in
her first year of showing and was awarded MHCO Grand
Champion Weanling Filly of 2006.

Coromell was our fourth foal, a
filly, born here at Dakota Winds Farm. Coromell
means “A night land breeze prevailing from
November to May at La Paz, near the southern extremity
of the Gulf of California”. From day one,
Coromell was a real "pocket pony"; always
wanting to be touching people, begging for attention,
even to the extreme of laying down on your feet
and rolling over. Coromell has been having a successful
showing debut with her new owners.

Quetzi was our third

Farm. Quetzalcoatl means “A chief Toltec
and Aztec god identified with the wind and air”.
The “Birthday Wish” part of her name
is significant for the wish our daughter, Heather
made on her birthday just a few days earlier;
she wished Beauty would have a pinto filly. Quetzi
had a successful 1st year showing with us and
was awarded MHCO Grand Champion Weanling Filly
of 2005. She has continued her success with her
new owners showing great promise in Performance
